Neal Adams & John Simms Set of 8 Large ORIG JUSTICE LEAGUE Storyboard Paintings
Neal Adams & John Simms Set of 8 Large ORIGINAL. JUSTICE LEAGUE Storyboard Paintings Eight Original 1960's.This week's sales features 8 original "Justice League" comic story board hand done illustrations that were done by Neal Adams & John Simms (1 lot); a large and mesmerizing Latin American painting that was exhibited at a University of California Museum, and this collection of ORIGINAL Peter Beard photographs and collages. The three lots are being offered in separate auctions & are worthy of any discerning art collection! It gives me great pleasure to have the opportunity to offer this group of 8 large ORIGINAL Justice League storyboard paintings. The Justice League is the DC Universe's most powerful and premier superhero team, a strike force comprised of the world's mightiest heroes.
They act as stalwart protectors of sentient life; Earth's first line of defense against terrestrial, extra-terrestrial, inter-dimensional and supernatural threats. There have been many members over the years and several incarnations of the team, but the original group was founded by Aquaman, Batman, Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Superman, and Wonder Woman. The Justice League of America was created by Gardner Fox during the Silver Age as a spiritual successor to the Golden Age's Justice Society of America, first appearing in Brave and the Bold #28.This is a group of ink and watercolor paintings glued and laminated on 8 unframed Crescent Illustration Boards. Each board measures 30" by 20", with the illustrations covering an area of about 27-1/2" by 17-1/2". Simms is written on the lower left, on one of the boards. On the lower center of the same board, Artwork by John S. Simms with a lot of help from Neal Adams is written. On the lower right of the same board, Lettering by Frank A. I do not know John Simms, Neal Adams or Frank Mello, so I do not what percentage of the work Neal Adams did. I assume that "a lot of help" would mean that Adams spent a lot of time on the storyboards and that it was a collaborative effort.
It is important to remember that when these storyboards were done in the 1960's, Neal Adams was only in his 20's & wasn't as nearly as famous as he is today! Most of the illustrations are in good condition. A few of the illustrations have dirt, light scratches/nicks and brown glue lines.
Outside of the illustrations, in the margins, there are approximately 8 pin/tack holes on each of the illustration boards. There is also toning and dirt in some of the margins. Also, the boards have become wavy over time.Once the boards are matted and framed, it should conceal the pin/tack holes and flatten the boards. Please enlarge and carefully review each of the illustration boards to see the dirt, scratches, lines and pin/tack holes. When examining the paintings under an ultraviolet light, I did not find evidence of any restoration. The writing is original to the storyboard and does not fluoresce under the ultraviolet light. I try to provide the best customer service possible.
