Barry Windsor-smith Conan Red Nails Printed At Full Size From Original Art
TO SEE THESE SCANS IN A LARGE SIZE. For some reason, my scans have some kind of faint "dot-matrix" looking appearance in the background. This is NOT on the actual pages of the book! The adaptation of Robert E.
Howard's story "Red Nails" into an illustrated format by artist Barry Windsor-Smith and writer Roy Thomas for Marvel Comics in 1973 remains one of the high points in the history of comic art. Now, Original Art Archives/ Genesis West publishing presents the entire story, scanned from the original artwork at high resolution and printed at the artwork's actual size. Painstaking care was taken to insure that the reproduction of this art would be as faithful to the original art as possible (test printings on multiple types of paper were made, including the paper that IDW uses for their admirable "Artist's Edition" series).Genesis West publishing broke with the tradition of printing on flat matte paper, and chose a more expensive heavy, coated stock for this publication in order to insure that every nuance of the original art could be captured. Red Nails writer and editor Roy Thomas had this to say: This is the real deal!
Every beautiful, exquisite art line drawn by Barry Windsor Smith back in the 1970's - reproduced exactly as I saw it when writing and editing and proofreading the pages forty years ago - and the special thrill to me, seeing all of Barry's original penciled margin notes to me, based on the Robert E. Howard story, plus my proofreading notes.
