Jack Kirby Original Art Thor 164 (1969) Page 27 Him/Warlock Historic Appearance
This seven panel page shows the aftermath of a battle between Pluto and Thor. Thor is featured in three panels, with Sif and Balder in two panels. The bottom tier of the page sets up the next issue, showing Him breaking through his cocoon in the last panel. This is the second page, and third panel, in the history of Marvel Comics to show Him/Warlock in human form. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby introduced Him in Fantastic Four issues #66 and #67. They only showed his "beehive" in those two issues until the last page of #67, when two panels showed Him in human form. Thor #163 showed Him's cocoon again. This page is the next time that Him is shown in human form. Him, of course, became Warlock in Marvel Feature #1 and went on to his own series. His battles with Thanos, particularly Jim Starlin's run, have become a central part of Marvel Universe. This art is in typical condition for artwork that is almost 50 years old. It is standard sized comic art. The art shows some wear from age but there are no creases or other defects.
The art has numerous notations in the margins, presumably by Lee and Kirby, given the Marvel method. " Most importantly, in the margin next to the last panel, there is direction to color the hand of "Him. The art has several corrections using white out. The back of the art has the Comics Code Authority stamp dated December 1968. Ships to US addresses only.
