John Byrne Original Art: Spider-Man Splash Page (1999). There are some writers or artist that stay with you; no matter if it's been days or years their stories have left an imprint. For me, no other comic artist or writer resonates more than John Byrne.
Clearly there are greats out there; Terry Austin, Walt Simonson, Jack Kirby. The list is long, but John Byrne is the only one I go back to regularly. His run on X-Men is legendary, his She-Hulk defining, his Avengers classic, and his Fantastic Four is a pinnacle of the series. Even his shorter runs hold weight; his Captain America, Incredible Hulk, Namor and Spider-man should all hold a place in your collection.
This piece of original art belongs to his Amazing Spider-Man run from 1999; specifically issue 11, page 12. Original art is amazing to have, and this piece is no exception. Here you can see his original light pencils underneath the ink, and where he moved things slightly you can see the shadows of the markings; I've taken a few close-ups of examples. You can see on the back of the art that it is stamped with the Marvel markings and legal wording regarding ownership. You might notice ink smudges on the back of the page that I like to think of as remnants form Byrne's inky hand as he flipped the piece over. We all know the trajectory (and somewhat fall) that comic books have taken over the last few years; but that is nothing compared to the climbing value of original art by great artist of fantastic characters. Not only is this a piece of history, and art, it's an incredible investment. This work is signed and comes framed for you, though it does not come with a copy of the comic. Since this is a pricy piece of art I will require that it be signed for so no porch thief can steal it. Please ask if you have any questions.
