This wonderful piece of art is from From Hell, the award-winning collaboration between writer Alan Moore and artist Eddie Campbella graphic novel about Jack the Ripper (and the whole of Victorian society). As cursory inspection of the page will reveal, it is the first page of the twelfth chapter. It depicts a séance where Queen Victoria is trying to contact Prince Albertas an extra fillip in what could just be a scene where a charlatan takes advantage of a grieving widow, the spectral body of Albert floats above them. It's a lovely, evocative page that shows off both collaborators at their best, with incisive Moore dialogue and expressive Campbell art. It's signed by Campbell.

Moore, of course, is one of the titans of modern comics, having written works that include Watchmen, Miracleman, The Killing Joke, Promethea, Top 10, and the novel Jerusalem. Eddie Campbell, the writer and artist of the semi-autobiographical series Alec, is no slouch either.

But From Hell is one of the best things either of them ever didit's also a not-very-good 2001 movie starring Johnny Depp and Heather Graham. The comics were published between 1989 and 1996 and first collected as a complete graphic novel in 1999.

I acquired the page directly from artist Eddie Campbell in 1998, had it professionally framed immediately thereafter, and have treated it with love ever since. A close inspection doesn't reveal any flawsas far as I can tell, it's aged extraordinarily well.

But as always, take a look at the photos and judge for yourself. The frame is 15 inches wide by 20 inches high. The image is 10 inches wide by 14.5 inches highI don't want to disassemble the frame, but if memory serves, Campbell worked on an industry-standard bristol board.
