Offered for sale is the original artwork for the comic panel THE DAYS OF REAL SPORT by Clare Briggs. Art Type: Daily comic panel/strip original artwork. Medium: Pen and ink over pencil/graphite on art board. Publisher: New York Tribune, Inc. Publication Date: February 27, 2928.

Dimensions: 11.5" tall by 14.25" wide (board dimensions; image slightly smaller). The Days of Real Sport was one of several recurring daily panels drawn by Briggs on a rotating basis. This daily features a boy coming home late, and hoping to lessen the severity of the punishment which he is sure to face by carrying in some wood for the stove. Given the look on mom's face, and her obvious anger, his ploy looks like it is doomed to fail. Ah, the tribulations of youth!

Wonderfully rendered true-to-life moment perfectly captured by Briggs (who certainly had the knack of finding and drawing those life moments, both good and bad). This strip was reprinted in The Memorial Edition: The Drawings of Clare Briggs: The Days of Real Sport - It Happens in the Best Regulated Families, Wise & Co. 1930, a series of book collecting Briggs cartoons which were published after he passed away. A rare opportunity to acquire an original by an early 20th century comic art master. The art is in very good overall condition. The paper has moderately darkened. Creasing (looks to have been somewhat roughly rolled at one time; creasing is more visible from the reverse than from the front).
